It is said that this festival began when Ame-no-Uzume-no-Mikoto danced in front of Iwato.
At Takachiho Shrine, you can watch Yokagura (ancient dance rituals at night) every day from 8:00 p.m. for about an hour for a viewing fee of 1,000 yen. (Released twice a year depending on the season)

A statue of Tajikarao no Mikoto in front of the torii gate Amano Iwato Shrine.
This shrine is dedicated to Amaterasu Omikami and is located halfway up the cliffs of Iwato River that flows behind the main shrine.
There is a cave called Ama-no-Iwato where Amaterasu Omikami hid herself in anger at the violent behaviour of her younger brother, Susano-no-Mikoto.

The former TR Takachiho Railway has been turned into a park and attraction.
We boarded a windowless open-top train and crossed Takachiho Railway Bridge.

Kunimigaoka is a famous observation point.

The sea of clouds at Kunimigaoka is a seasonal sight from late October to early December.

A long-term shochu storage facility that uses a tunnel in Takachiho Town, which borders Kumamoto and Oita prefectures.
The year was 1973, and construction was underway with several tunnels being built.
However, an accident occurred in Takamori where water gushed out inside the tunnel, and construction was halted.
In 1997, it was sold to Takachiho Town by the former JNR Settlement Corporation.
I checked the humidity and temperature inside the container to see if there was anything I could do to make use of it.
The humidity is 70% and the temperature is 17°C throughout the year.
The temperature and humidity are just right for aging shochu.
It was decided to use it as a shochu storage facility.
