A long-term shochu storage facility that uses a tunnel in Takachiho Town, which borders Kumamoto and Oita prefectures.
The year was 1973, and construction was underway with several tunnels being built.
However, there was an incident in Takamori where water gushed out into the tunnel, causing construction to be suspended.
In 1997, it was sold to Takachiho Town by the former JNR Settlement Corporation.
I checked the humidity and temperature inside the container to see if there was anything I could do to make use of it.
The humidity is 70% and the temperature is 17°C throughout the year.
The temperature and humidity are just right for aging shochu.
It was decided to use it as a shochu storage facility.
